Shropshire prep school Packwood Haugh rang to the sound of myriad different languages today as the normal daily curriculum was suspended and the children took part in a fantastic, fun Foreign Languages Day.

Working collaboratively with more than a dozen different schools across Europe has resulted in King’s Ely being officially recognised as an ‘eTwinning School’.

Russian phrases, German delicacies and Hindi dance moves were among some of the things learnt by students during King’s Ely International Week.

Many people believe that Welsh, a minority language spoken in just one small pocket of the world, is unimportant, unnecessary and that teaching it distracts children from learning other, more widely used languages. However, in the last few decades, Wales has reclaimed its native tongue. At Moreton First, there is a thriving Welsh Club, and for good reason!

School might be out for summer, but that doesn’t mean kids can’t be learning. Leading Chartered Psychologist and Member of the British Psychological Society, Dr Simon Moore (BSc, PhD, CPsychol), has unveiled new insight demonstrating how language-based gaming apps can help children develop their language learning.

For many children, learning a modern language is not a lesson they are challenged with until they reach secondary school. But at Barrow Hills School, an independent co-educational prep school for children aged 2 to 13, being exposed to the words and sounds associated with a new language begins as early as the nursery years.
